    How the generator works

Passwords are created by your browser using the Web Crypto API, the same secure random source used for encryption. Each character is chosen with equal chance from the set you allow, and every character type you tick is guaranteed to appear at least once. Nothing is sent over the internet and nothing is saved.

    What makes a password strong?

Length matters most. Every extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords. A random 16-character password using letters, numbers and symbols has over 100 bits of entropy, which would take billions of years to guess even at billions of attempts per second.

    • Under 40 bits: weak. Can be guessed quickly by a computer.
    • 40 to 59 bits: fair. Fine for low-risk accounts only.
    • 60 to 79 bits: strong.
    • 80 bits and above: very strong. Recommended for email, banking and password managers.

    Tips for staying safe

    • Use a different password for every account, so one leak does not unlock everything.
    • Store passwords in a password manager instead of a note or spreadsheet.
    • Turn on two-step verification wherever it is offered.
    • Use at least 12 characters for everyday accounts and 16 or more for important ones.
    • Tick Avoid look-alike characters if you will need to read or type the password by hand.

    Password Generator FAQs

Answers about security, length and privacy.

Is it safe to use an online password generator?+

This one is. Passwords are created inside your browser with secure randomness and are never sent to our servers or saved anywhere.

How long should my password be?+

At least 12 characters for everyday accounts and 16 or more for email, banking and other important accounts. Longer is always stronger.

What does entropy in bits mean?+

It measures how hard a password is to guess. Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses needed, so 80 bits is about a million times harder to crack than 60 bits.

    Why avoid look-alike characters?+

Characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0 are easy to confuse when reading. Removing them makes passwords easier to type by hand, at a very small cost in strength.

Do you keep a copy of my password?+

No. We never see the passwords you create. Once you close the page they are gone, so copy the one you want first.
