Tip Calculator & Bill Splitter
Work out the tip and split the bill between friends in seconds. Choose a tip percentage, add the number of people and round each share up if you like.
How to use the tip calculator
- Enter the bill amount before tip. Any currency works.
- Tap a tip percentage or type your own.
- Set how many people are sharing. Each person’s share appears straight away.
- Tick Round each share up to avoid coins and small change. The extra goes to the tip.
How the tip is worked out
Tip = bill × tip percentage ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Each share = total ÷ number of people.
For example, a bill of 2,400 with a 10% tip gives a tip of 240 and a total of 2,640. Split between four people, each pays 660.
How much should I tip?
Tipping customs vary a lot between countries:
- United States and Canada: 15% to 20% in restaurants is standard.
- United Kingdom and much of Europe: about 10%, unless a service charge is already on the bill.
- Pakistan, India and the Middle East: 5% to 10% in restaurants is common and appreciated.
- Japan: tipping is not expected and can cause confusion.
Always check the bill first. If it already includes a service charge, you usually do not need to add a full tip on top.
Splitting unevenly
If people ordered very different amounts, it may be fairer for each person to pay for their own items plus the same tip percentage. Use the calculator once per person with their share of the bill.
Tip Calculator FAQs
Answers about tipping and splitting bills.
How do I calculate a 15% tip?+
Multiply the bill by 0.15. A quick way: work out 10% by moving the decimal point one place left, then add half of that again.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?+
Many people tip on the amount before tax. Either is acceptable; just enter whichever amount you want to tip on.
How do I split a bill evenly?+
Enter the bill and tip, then the number of people. The calculator divides the total, including tip, equally.
What does rounding up do?+
It rounds each person's share up to the next whole number so nobody needs coins. The small extra amount is added to the tip.
Does it work with any currency?+
Yes. The calculator only works with numbers, so it suits rupees, dollars, pounds, euros or any other currency.
